My Brother's Keeper

Rocco adores his brother.  Every morning, if he's up first, he asks when Roman is waking up....over and over again until he hears him.  Then his face lights up and he says, "I'll go get him Mommy."  And the fun begins!  Today Roman was watching Rocco play Wii.  Rocco said, "I love you so much."  I thought he was talking to me and I said, "I love you too."  I was then informed, "No, mommy I was talking to RoRo."  Well then...
Today we went to the gym to play soccer.  Roc and Ro were the goalies and Mommy was attempting to score goals.  I kicked the ball and Roman tried to kick it back and he missed.  He sat down, pouting.  I encouraged him to try again.  He refused.  Rocco said, "It's my turn!"  So I kicked the ball towards Rocco.  He purposely missed the ball and fell to the ground.  He leaned towards his baby brother and said, "See RoRo, I miss too, do you want to try again?"  I stood there in awe of my 4 year old....Roman refused to try again.  Rocco got up and again I kicked the ball to him.  Rocco missed the ball and did a silly fall to the ground.  RoRo started to grin.  "RoRo it's your turn, do you want to try now?"  "No, Rocco."  This time Rocco kicked the ball and we cheered for him.  He sat back down, leaned into his little brother's face and said, "I did it, try again RoRo."  RoRo got up and happily tried again, this time kicking the ball with all his might.  Rocco smiled and cheered him on.  I am overwhelmed by his selfless and compassionate actions...my heart swelled with pride and I fought to hold back the tears that were forming in my eyes.  What a wonderful gift we have been given in Rocco...what a beautiful little soul...I am truly honored to be his mommy.   I praised him for his kindness and told him that our family is so much better because he is part of it and then I bought him candy and Cheese Doodles.  I could not love him any more...
