Fall in Virginia

Whenever I miss Arizona, I decide to get out and explore our new home (even though we have been here 2 years so I am not sure it is technically new).  Virginia in the Fall is breathtaking and so I take it all in and enjoy every leaf and cool wind that blows.  Some pictures of our recent adventures.

This just about sums it up...

Mother's Song
a Traditional Lullaby
My heart is like a fountain true
That flows and flows with love to you.
As chirps the lark unto the tree
...
So chirps my pretty babe to me.

There's not a rose where'er I seek,
As comely as my baby's cheek.
There's not a comb of honey-bee,
So full of sweets as babe to me.

There's not a star that shines on high,
Is brighter than my baby's eye.
There's not a boat upon the sea,
Can dance as baby does to me.

No silk was ever spun so fine
As is the hair of baby mine.
My baby smells more sweet to me
Than smells in spring the elder tree.

A little fish swims in the well,
So in my heart does baby dwell.
A little flower blows on the tree,
My baby is the flower to me.

The Queen has sceptre, crown and ball,
You are my sceptre, crown and all.
For all her robes of royal silk,
More fair your skin, as white as milk.

Ten thousand parks where deer do run,
Ten thousand roses in the sun,
Ten thousand pearls beneath the sea,
My babe more precious is to me.

Toast and stories and lightening...

Today was nothing special.  I made cookies for my neighbors and some friends and of course my family.  It made DeAndre yell "Yes" when I told him in the car on the way home from football practice.  :)  My friend KellyAnn and her son came over and Rocco had fun with his new Play-Doh.  Roman ate breakfast and then swiftly walked to his Grandma and stole her toast.  He likes to have food in both hands when he eats so she broke it in two and laughed at him, freely giving up her breakfast.
Matt and I went to the gym.  It felt great to exercise and feel the strength that I still have in my aging body.  I wish that sweaty people would clean off the machines after use!  It's so gross to see the remnants of someone's fluids...gag!
Rocco requested ten books at bedtime so I read him eleven.  I kissed his little cheek and neck and told him that he makes my days beautiful.  He really does...make my days beautiful.  I made an extra effort to feel his little body in my arms and place the feeling of it in my long term memory.  I never want to forget how sweet he felt next to me.
It rained and thundered today with flashes of lightening.  I hate lightening.
I watched Matt pack for his trip to Az tomorrow.  He really is my best friend.  I realized today that there is no one else alive that really listens to me, even when I ramble on and on, like he does.  I love being loved.
I e-mailed a friend across the world and picked his brain about God.  I am learning to find peace in the unknown...but still search for perspective.
Random happenings on an ordinary day...

A fine mess!
My baby is one.  It's bittersweet to watch him progress into an independent little person.   Roman has a small vocabulary at his young age consisting of the following words-Hi (said with a southern drawl), hat, bye bye, ball, pants and my personal favorite...the K sound, which means cookie.  He is happy, sweet and into everything.  He loves the toilet, the dirt in my plants, the cabinet that houses the pots and pans, and the little hideout behind the TV.  He adores Rocco and freely hugs and kisses him often.  They are starting to play and interact together and the love they feel for each other is apparent.  Happy Birthday to my sweet, chubby and busy little boy!

Ordinary days

Sometimes I forget to embrace the beauty of ordinary days
catch every smile, play every game and walk into open arms
the smell of my baby's breath..how it feels on my cheek and how sweet it is.
The sacred, fleeting moments
of football games
and girlfriends
homework
rain and puddles and rubber boots
and nicknames
friends who will eat standing up off paper plates
and dreams that only last a day... and joy that they were shared only with you
laughing at the absurdity of the disfunction in your past
feeling strong
and safe
and full...
and wanting nothing...at all
because your cup has runneth over.
